Martin Short Accepts Apology From Kathy Lee Gifford

Martin Short is such a good guy! When faced with an awkward situation, the actor handled it with class and dignity — which is something a lot of Hollywood stars could certainly learn from these days.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The Today Show”, Kathie Lee Gifford asked him about his family. After asking about his children, she moved the topic of conversation to his wife, Nancy Dolman. She said, “You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years for you guys now?”

He replied, “We…married 36 years.”

Instead of correcting the talk show host, he continued on with allowing the questions on the subject. She said, “But you’re still in love!” He said, “Madly in love.” She asked, “Why?” of which he responded, “Because I’m cute.”

During the commercial break, Martin informed her off the mistake. She said, “Martin just told me as he was leaving, he said, ‘Kathie, you probably didn’t know,’ but his beautiful, precious wife Nancy did pass away a year and a half ago… I feel so badly.”

She also took to her official Twitter page to say, “I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I’m so grateful.”

When speaking with “E! News” about the mixup, he said that he doesn’t hold a grudge toward Kathie Lee for the honest mistake. He said, “I think that it’s live television and people make mistakes and there’s no ill will intended. And I think it’s nice to aspire to be that way.”

What a true gentleman.

During an appearance on “The Today Show” to promote his new movie, “Madagascar 3″, Kathy Lee Gifford asked Martin Short about his wife, Nancy Dolman. The only problem? She’s been deceased since August of 2010.

On Wednesday morning, Kathy Lee was interviewing Martin live on the talk show, but she had forgotten that the actor’s wife had passed away two years ago. All seemed to be going well with their chat until Kathy Lee switched the focus of the interview to Martin’s family. At first, she asked him about his three children and then asked about his wife.

She said, “You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years now for you for you guys?”

Instead of pointing out the kerfuffle, Martin said, “Married 36 years.” Kathy Lee responded, “But you’re still in love! Why?”

To that Martin responded, “Cute. I’m cute.”

Later, Kathy Lee took to her official Twitter account to apologize for the mistake. She said, “I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I’m so grateful.”
