Does it pay to win American Idol?
by roberta on Feb.25, 2010, under articles
If your name is Taylor Hicks, then probably not. Even though the crooner won the talent competition in 2006, he is now crooning away as a lead character in Grease on Broadway. Not that it wasn’t a dream of his to perform on Broadway, because that is totally respectable.
Obviously I wasn’t a card carrying member of the Soul Patrol, but the guy has a voice and some degree of talent. That is what winning American Idol means anyway, right?
On March 10, 2009, Taylor released his second album, The Distance, to dismal record sales. Therefore, he was soon dropped from his record label, J Records.
Even more recently, Kris Allen won 2009’s American Idol, yet hasn’t seen the success as runner-up, Adam Lambert. Sure, he raked in $650,000 in 19 Entertainment contracts, as well as deals to work with Disney, but what winning the competition done for his career as a singer? He obviously doesn’t have the same draw as Adam and even after he won, who was asked to out himself on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
But don’t think that any of the people who appear on the show don’t make their share of the payola.

Adam Lambert has some backstage drama?
by roberta on Jul.30, 2009, under articles
I’m not sure how much of this I believe, but a source is claiming that Adam Lambert had a hissy fit of diva proportions at a concert recently.
The Idols Live tour came to Tacoma, Washington on July 7, 2009. Apparently this is when Lambert supposedly had a little bit of drama backstage.
A source claimed that a fan grabbed Lambert’s hand, interrupting his chat with Kris Allen, to say, “I have to tell you, Adam, you are the greatest…I just LOVE your voice.” (continue reading…)

Kris Allen talks about Adam Lambert
by roberta on Jun.24, 2009, under articles
In a recent interview with “Parade” magazine, Kris Allen was asked whether or not he thought Adam Lambert was stealing the spotlight. After all, Kris did win “American Idol”, but Adam landed the cover of “Rolling Stone” and people are still hanging on his every word.
Kris responded, “Adam is definitely one of those people who garnishes media attention. He’s different, and he’s something completely different from Idol and so I think he deserves all that stuff. And for me, I’m totally laid back and cool. Being on the cover of Rolling Stone, he had something to say and they wanted to be the ones to say it. That was his way to do that. I don’t have any problems with it at all. I think Adam totally deserves it. I don’t feel like he’s stealing my thunder.” (continue reading…)

Adam Lambert admits he’s gay to ‘Rolling Stone’ – Video
by roberta on Jun.09, 2009, under articles
Here’s a shocker: Adam Lambert is gay! Like we didn’t already know that, right? For the first time, after being in the public spotlight as the runner-up for “American Idol”, Lambert is finally kicking that closet door open.
In the next issue of “Rolling Stone”, Lambert says, “I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I’m gay. I’ve been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I’ve been at clubs drunk making out with somebody in the corner.”
Of making the big reveal, he says, “Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, ‘I’m going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler. I’m proud of my sexuality.”
Of all of the attention from the opposite sex this season, Lambert says, “I loved it this season when the girls went crazy for me. As far as I’m concerned, it’s all hot.”
Kris Allen signs with Jive Records
by roberta on Jun.08, 2009, under articles
“American Idol” winner, Kris Allen has been signed with Jive Records. Allen presumably (if the rumors are correct) Allison Iraheta on the Jive label. Congrats to Kris!
Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings has signed Allen, with his work being licensed to Jive.
Fuller says, “Kris won the hearts of millions of Americans with his soulful voice, good looks, and gracious demeans. However it is his passion for music and love of performing that will make sure Kris stands the test of time and makes ‘American Idol’ proud.”
Allen says, “As exciting as the last few months have been, I’m really looking forward to what is next. I’m very grateful to be working with Simon Fuller and his team at 19 Entertainment, along with Barry Weiss and Jive Records on my debut album. Everyone’s been asking me what it’s going to sound like. It will be very similar to what you heard from me on the show — definitely in the pop/rock genre. I can’t wait to get started!”
Weiss, Chairman and CEO of RCA/Jive says, “Kris had a terrific run of memorable performances culminating with an incredible win. He’s a super-talented singer and all-around gifted musician who has that rare common touch which will give him the ability to connect with the broadest possible audience. We’re really excited to welcome him to the Jive family.”

Adam Lambert Heading To Broadway & Queen Rumors?
by roberta on Jun.01, 2009, under articles
Adam Lambert may not want to set his sights on fronting Queen just yet, because he has other plans and apparently they include hitting the Broadway stage.

He says that he would love to appear in “Jesus Chris Superstar” and his dream role? He says, “I’d love to play Judas – that’s my dream role.”
He’s also got plans for “American Idol” winner Kris Allen. When asked who could star alongside Lambert on Broadway, he replied, “Kris…he could play Jesus!”
As far as rumors that were swirling around saying that Lambert would be the new Queen frontman, don’t believe the hype.
He said, “They’ve never actually offered me anything. They expressed interest in working together, but just said they’d like to have a meaningful conversation, and that’s it. It could have meant they wanted me to come to dinner with them, it could have meant they wanted to talk about the meaning of life. I don’t know if joining the band permanently is in the cards for me right now. They’re legends; I’m just the new kid on the block.”
Adam Lambert Says Clay Aiken Can Ride His Coattails
by roberta on May.29, 2009, under articles
Snap! Clay Aiken slammed Adam Lambert saying that he wasn’t his “cup of tea at all” and that his Johnny Cash performance made his ears bleed, but that’s okay with Lambert. Even though Aiken later apologized, Lambert is really laughing it off.

He said, “I don’t know Clay. I’m glad he’s getting headlines now though, because he wasn’t before. If he wants to ride my coattails about it, good for him.”
Lambert made sure he cleared up the details surrounding the famous TextGate, where people thought that AT&T or some other party were giving votes to Kris Allen.
He added, “There are plenty of standards and practices set up where they make sure that there’s no, foul play. And I don’t think it’s a conspiracy. I think people are making a big deal out of nothing. A couple of employees handed out a couple of phones and showed people how to use them. I don’t think that’s a conspiracy of any kind.”
And there you have it!

Kris Allen & Adam Lambert Perform On ‘The Today Show’ – Videos
by roberta on May.28, 2009, under articles
Adam Lambert and “American Idol” winner Kris Allen performed on “The Today Show” earlier today.

First, the guys talked about the show and how things have changed for them. Kris was also asked about “TextGate” whereas AT&T were said to have rigged the results in favor of his win on the show. Kris joked that he didn’t call AT&T and tell them that he needed more votes.
Adam said that he rolled his eyes when he heard the news and said that people are just looking for something to be dramatic about. He adds that there is no conspiracy, so relax.
And Adam says that he will not be working with Queen!
The guys also performed for the show, with Kris singing “Heartless” and Adam singing, “Mad World”:
Kris also sang the “American Idol” coronation song, written by Kara DioGuardi, “No Boundaries”:
I love how well they got along throughout the show and the results. It bodes well for both of their careers.
What do you think?
