Just a couple of days ago, it was announced that executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was fired from his duties at American Idol. Now that he and Ken Warwick are out, he has a suggestion for the show’s upcoming season.
Despite the show recruiting Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj as big draws for viewership, the show was still tanking with regard to ratings. Now, Nigel says that the show should return to its original format in order to avoid getting the boot from the network.
In a new interview, he said, “I believe in getting people together, testing their chemistry which is what I did with Randy, Paula and Simon. After that, whoever you bring in is a risk because we’ve seen it happen before. It’s one of those things, you don’t know how anybody’s going to be as a judge. You could be the greatest singer in the world but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be a good judge. That little team, Randy, Paula and Simon, again are the template for judges forever now.”
Do you think it would be a good idea to reunite the three former judges for the upcoming season? Does Nigel have a point here? Share your thoughts below!
Music mogul Simon Cowell had to be miffed during the taping of the season finale of Britain’s Got Talent. One nefarious audience member opted to pelt him with eggs! Can you believe the nerve?!?
According to the Daily Mail, viola player Natalie Holt was playing in the backup orchestra for brothers Adam and Richard Johnson, who were performing onstage, when she got up from her chair. With an egg carton in her left hand, she cut through the men and began to toss eggs at Cowell and the other judges — Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams.
Holt managed to get at least five eggs lobbed at Cowell before security stopped her. Through it all, the brothers kept singing, finishing an operatic version of The Impossible Dream.
After the incident, he was seen taking off his jacket. He took to his official Twitter account to say, “I don’t think eggs should be allowed on talent shows. Discuss?”
What do you think of the egging incident?
It has been confirmed! Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland are your judges for the upcoming third season of The X Factor! X Factor fans, are you excited?
Earlier on Monday, we told you of the possibility that Simon was hiring on Kelly and Paulina, but it looks like the decision is already made. Apparently the remaining two ladies have already signed on the dotted line!
We’re pretty sure that Simon didn’t get off cheap by hiring Britney Spears last year. She surely didn’t prove her worth when she offered up her commentary to the competitors, so we are hoping that at least Simon and Freemantle will get their money’s worth with Kelly and Paulina.
Still, isn’t Simon going to feel weird being the only guy on the panel? What do you think? Is he still going to be Mr. Nasty? Or will he try to pass off that honor on someone else like he tried with Britney?
Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and Mexican singer Paulina Rubio are said to be the final negotiations to judge the upcoming third season of “The X Factor”. As far as we know, they are being lined up to sit next to Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell to judge the new season of the hit talent competition.
Sources connected to FOX tell TMZ the pair are in final negotiations to join the show … with only minor details left to be hammered out before they sign on.
We’re told the deals will be done in the next few days, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Rowland and Rubio would be replacing Britney Spears and L.A. Reid … and joining returning judges Demi Lovato and (of course) Simon Cowell.
A rep for Fox had no comment.
Are you a fan of Kelly and Paulina? Do you think they would make good judges and mentors on the show? Or is Simon trying to be too much like “The Voice” in hiring Paulina? Hit the comments and leave us your thoughts!
It’s still up in the air about who will be taking the empty judges’ seats on the next season of “The X Factor”, except for one — Demi Lovato. Britney Spears jumped ship from the show after just one season, but Demi says that she’s devastated that she won’t be working with Britney again.
In a new interview, Demi said, “I wish Britney would come back. My next pick is Lady Gaga though, she’s so cool.”
In addition to Demi and Simon Cowell, the show will have two vacant chairs at the judges’ table. L.A. Reid has already announced his departure from the show last season. A snitch close to the situation said that Simon Cowell is looking for more of a chemistry between the judges as opposed to their names.
The source revealed, “Simon delivered a simple message: ‘Forget the big names and go for chemistry.’ He said all these shows have become distracted by signing celebrities rather than judges who really have something to say. We have all seen that big names don’t translate into big ratings. Chemistry is top of the list of demands for next season.”
