What did you think of the season premiere of The X Factor? Who are you rooting for so far — or is it too early to tell?
Simon Cowell has opened up about the reasons behind Britney Spears’ departure from The X Factor, revealing the singer found her job as a judge “very uncomfortable”.
Spears joined the panel of the hit talent competition, but quit after just one season on screen. Cowell has now revealed he made a mistake hiring the singer, because she hated interacting with contestants and voicing her opinion on the acts.
In a taped interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he revealed, ”I didn’t realize that (she was not good at talking)! I kind of booked someone who couldn’t talk, which is a bit of a problem when you want someone to judge… She wasn’t comfortable being negative, she didn’t like it when the contestants spoke back to her, so she was just uncomfortable. I liked her. So we decided to change it this year.”
Cowell also admits he became obsessed with chasing star names for the judging panel in a bid to keep up with the show’s competitors, American Idol and The Voice.
He added, “There was a time I think everyone was trying to up themselves in terms of who could find the biggest known star to be on a panel. And in terms of a pop singer? Jennifer Lopez and the other one on The Voice… I can’t remember. Blondie. Christina (Aguilera). And we said, ‘We’ll take Britney’. She was fine, but I think she found it very uncomfortable.”
Is Demi Lovato dissing on Justin Bieber during her time as a judge on the upcoming season of The X Factor USA 2013? It would appear so, according to this latest report from celebrity gossip website TMZ.
Reportedly, Demi was judging some of the acts when one contestant got dissed for acting like a punk while on the stage.
It all went down Wednesday on the campus of USC when Demi took exception to the attitude one contestant was giving off. Sources on set say when it was Demi’s turn to give her opinion on the 22-year-old wannabe, she said that the industry already has too many artists with bad attitudes and then commented, “We don’t need another little punk running the streets.”
Lovato’s next shot was less subtle … when a young man auditioned with Bieber’s own song, “As Long As You Love Me.” We’re told the audience loved his performance and so did the judges, but during her critique, Demi remarked, “Well finally someone can sing the song the way it was meant to be sung.”
Apparently Demi wasn’t feeling like she was in the insulting mood when she took to her official Twitter account to discuss the teen singer. She tweeted, “Btw – no shade thrown at Justin. So many people audition with his songs.. Finally someone sang it the way it was meant to be sung.. Meaning, finally someone sang it the way JUSTIN sang it. Ain’t got nothin’ but love for @justinbieber and his beliebers.”
Was Demi merely trying to head off Justin’s throngs of fans before they all got crazy and decided to start the hate in her general direction? What do you think? Share your thoughts below.
The third season of the popular singing competition The X Factor is set to premiere on September 11, 2013! Are you excited, X Factor fans?
The show first made its premiere in 2011 and crowned season one winner Melanie Amaro. In its second season the following year, country singer Tate Stevens took the X Factor crown. This year, we can’t wait to see how much the competition heats up!
The official Twitter account for the show announced the news yesterday, saying, “Just announced! The #xfactor two-night premiere is September 11& 12! http://fox.tv/14xQ7dz #FOXpremieres #xfactor pic.twitter.com/c1H8Z0Lhs3″ along with the above photo.
Judges Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato will be returning alongside new judges Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland to mentor the acts in all of the stages of the competition.

Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and Mexican singer Paulina Rubio are said to be the final negotiations to judge the upcoming third season of “The X Factor”. As far as we know, they are being lined up to sit next to Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell to judge the new season of the hit talent competition.
Sources connected to FOX tell TMZ the pair are in final negotiations to join the show … with only minor details left to be hammered out before they sign on.
We’re told the deals will be done in the next few days, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Rowland and Rubio would be replacing Britney Spears and L.A. Reid … and joining returning judges Demi Lovato and (of course) Simon Cowell.
A rep for Fox had no comment.
Are you a fan of Kelly and Paulina? Do you think they would make good judges and mentors on the show? Or is Simon trying to be too much like “The Voice” in hiring Paulina? Hit the comments and leave us your thoughts!
It’s still up in the air about who will be taking the empty judges’ seats on the next season of “The X Factor”, except for one — Demi Lovato. Britney Spears jumped ship from the show after just one season, but Demi says that she’s devastated that she won’t be working with Britney again.
In a new interview, Demi said, “I wish Britney would come back. My next pick is Lady Gaga though, she’s so cool.”
In addition to Demi and Simon Cowell, the show will have two vacant chairs at the judges’ table. L.A. Reid has already announced his departure from the show last season. A snitch close to the situation said that Simon Cowell is looking for more of a chemistry between the judges as opposed to their names.
The source revealed, “Simon delivered a simple message: ‘Forget the big names and go for chemistry.’ He said all these shows have become distracted by signing celebrities rather than judges who really have something to say. We have all seen that big names don’t translate into big ratings. Chemistry is top of the list of demands for next season.”
