Sesame Street “Slayer Sing-Along” mashup video

by on Feb.09, 2010, under articles

Take video from Sesame Street remixed at speeds matching Slayer’s song Ditto Head and you have something that will teach kids all the right things about life beyond Sesame Street. It’s good old-fashioned thrash metal that really syncs up well with the song choice.

In this classical Sesame Street episode we find Oscar singing Slayers Ditto Head along with Bert and Ernie on the drums and Grover playing Guitar. This the second Sesame Street satire Video that I’ve done if you like this one be sure to check ou[t] the other video of mine “Sesame Street “S” Is For Slayer” very short and funny video.

The Sound of Lô Borges…..

by on Feb.08, 2010, under articles

….is quite unique, and somehow sounds perfectly fresh today even though this track was recorded over 20 years ago in Brazil. This music somehow makes completely unexpected chord changes sound perfectly natural, and wraps them up with clattering percussion and skillful bass undertones that walk with the melody of the vocals.

If at first you don’t get it, listen to this song again and it’s genius will start to sink in, especially when the bridge comes in which features Lô’s sister Solange Borges on vocals. Her voice is the perfect blend of skill and character that has a real approachable and almost familiar sound to it. (continue reading…)

K’naan – Take a minute

by on Feb.08, 2010, under articles

I had heard K’naan a while back and meant to share him here. K’naan’s writing is extremely powerful and the sound is very complex and uplifting for what is essentially a very depressing subject matter. I’ve been admiring the production on this album for a while, and the overall emotional tone. His song “Wavin’ Flag” is also exceptional in quality. Embedded video and lyrics after the jump. T-Pain’s Superbowl Commercial – Voice Box

by on Feb.08, 2010, under articles

I’m guessing this is music related enough to be posted here, since T-Pain is a music artist who will be whoring out the auto-tune party of his for as long as people find it interesting.

Well, I admit, I laughed at this. All the guys sound like girly singers and it is funny because they do not mind! In fact it is encouraged. I KNOW, RIGHT? Well I guess that is funny because it pokes fun at the de-masculinity of men in general today (BAAAAY-BEEEH CAN YOU PASS THE GUACAMOLE-EH. And the fact that it’s being used to sell a light beer, which is beer for men who want to make sure they fit in their sexy skirts. I guess I’ve said my piece on why it is funny, just watch the damn video after the jump. (continue reading…)

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus video

by on Feb.06, 2010, under articles

I’ve been a Massive Attack fan for a while back now (since before they became so widely known through the theme music to the TV show House, MD… which coincidentally is a song called Teardrop). Does this make me better than you, perhaps not, but it does make me appreciate the journey it has taken to get them their latest album Heligoland. So when they announced that a new album was dropping this year, I was definitely psyched to get some new stuff from them. Video and lyrics of Paradise Circus after the jump (continue reading…)

Die Antwoord makes me feel rather stupid

by on Feb.06, 2010, under articles

I know there is a lot of ironic self-deprecating music artists out there who sound dumb as a kind of in-joke with the audience, and then there are genuinely stupid people who just make it big based on being so painfully dumb. What really starts to trip me up is when there’s foreign aspects; add some exotic slang and fashion into the mish mash and I might actually think someone is as stupid as they sound. So when I watched Die Antwoord’s weird ass fashion and talking, I gotta say I thought it was some weird internet joke video.

Until the hook comes in, then you realize how brilliant the gag is. I still don’t know what Die Antwoord or Zef Side is, but I’m curious about what they’ll do next. Watch the vid after the jump (continue reading…)

Ukraine band covers Katy Perry

by on Aug.02, 2009, under articles

Los Colorados (yeah, I know… why the hell does a East Europe band have a latin name?) did a cover of Katy Perry’s hit song Hot and Cold. Visually, it’s about as exciting as watching a local polka festival at the local VFW, but when you start listening… it’s made of rainbows and unicorns. (continue reading…)

Auto-Tune the News #6

by on Jul.17, 2009, under articles

One of my favorite spoofs of the media/music/pop-culture, the folks who religiously crank out the awesomeness that is Auto-Tune the News have released their sixth webisode, and have finally started getting some media attention to their work. The Village Voice did an interview and it’s amazing that this is essentially a family hobby ( Three Gregory brothers: Michael, Andrew, Evan and his wife, the band’s “official babe” Sarah):

But their role of satirical beltway remixers nevertheless suits the Brothers well. “We make the videos to point out some of the absurdities of the politics-to-media food chain,” Evan says. “The manufactured emotions and self-seriousness, the silly news-show formats, the whole cable news circus is ripe for some jokes. And we like to do that by singing about it.”

Full video after the jump, a healthy skewering of Michael Jackson-mania, drugs… and Sarah Palin. (continue reading…)

Relax, don’t do it. Check out his moustache through it – video

by on Jul.02, 2009, under articles

The wonderful thing about the Internet is that so much stuff is available on demand at any minute, which allows us to see things in videos from years ago that we never quite bothered to look at. They can give a snapshot into a person’s life, like that of back-up singer Paul Rutherford, who’s initial stint as a back-up singer to Frankie Goes to Hollywood never quite put him on the right road to his own fame and success, but told us as much as we needed to know anyways. Minivan Highway: sometimes weird people do cool things

by on Jul.02, 2009, under articles

This strange video, entitled Minivan Highway looks like something your old 8th grade math, science and homeroom teachers might have put together back in 1987 and all but forgotten about. Sadly, someone actually spent time creating that illusion and gets paid big bucks to put it on Cartoon Network every Sunday. (continue reading…)
