Newly minted pop star Taylor Swift has revealed that she has a security detail 24/7 for wherever she goes just because of the threats by the men who try to reach out to her. Swift said that she has faced so much harassment from men in the past that she felt fear that she would be murdered.
All of these horrifying experiences have led the singer to be extra alert and have security guards with her non-stop. She revealed in a recent interview, “I fought the idea of having security for a very long time, because I really value normalcy. I really do. I like to be able to take a drive by myself. Haven’t done that in six years. They have to be in a car behind me. Because just the sheer number of men we have in a file who have showed up at my house, showed up at my mom’s house, threatened to either kill me, kidnap me, or marry me.”
Earlier in the year, Swift was forced to obtain a restraining order against a man who was stalking her. Timothy Sweet was said to have believed he was married to the singer and reportedly wrote threatening messages to her on Twitter and Facebook. She said that she tries hard to put the dangers in the back of her mind — can you really blame her?
She said, “This is the strange and sad part of my life that I try not to think about. I try to be lighthearted about it, because I don’t ever want to be scared. I don’t want to be walking down the street scared. And when I have security, I don’t have to be scared.”
What a life to live to have to be scared of the unknown all of the time. Perhaps she should write a song about those crazy experiences? At least it would be better than dragging another ex-boyfriend through the mud, no? She has made a career off of making a mockery out of her former relationships, but the singer has revealed that she is no longer dating anyone so that fans won’t think she needs a man for any song inspiration.
She said, “I just stopped dating people, because it meant a lot to me to set the record straight – that I do not need some guy around in order to get inspiration, in order to make a great record, in order to live my life, in order to feel okay about myself. I wanted to show my fans the same thing.”
It’s worth noting that when Swift released “Red”, she said the entire album was about past relationships. She told fans, “All the different emotions that are written about on this album are all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I’ve experienced in the last two years. All those emotions — spanning from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion, all of that — in my mind, all those emotions are red. You know, there’s nothing in between. There’s nothing beige about any of those feelings.”
And there you have it!
