Tonight on American Idol, we’re down to the top three! Viewers will have to decide between Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alania. Idol favorite James Durbin was ousted on last week’s show in a shocking elimination. Read our full recap here.
Beyonce is premiering her new video, Run The World (Girls) video on the show tonight and she is also mentoring the contestants during tonight’s show.
Scotty is singing his favorite song first, which is Lonestar’s Amazed. Beyonce called him a “cutie pie” and said, “That’s m,y boy!” He is doing a great job and we’re sure someone is going to tell him that he’s “in it to win it”. Randy? J-Lo? He is definitely going to be the one to beat this season.
Steven said that Scotty got angry and kicked the song into next week and took the song up a notch. Jennifer said he has grown since the beginning of the season. She said it was a great way to start the show. Randy said it was a great song choice and it’s an amazing song. He said there were a couple of pitchy spots and commented “That’s money.”
Next, Lauren is up singing the Faith Hill song, Wild One. Beyonce said that she chose something fun and she gave her a pep talk before her performance. She said Lauren has to have trust in herself.
Lauren performed and everyone in the audience were clapping in time with the beat. The song was pitchy, to borrow a few words from Randy. I didn’t feel it at all.
Jennifer said it was very good and that she had to create a moment. Randy said he loved seeing her have fun and it was a nice song choice for her. He said she’s at her best when she lets herself go. Steven said she was having fun back then and she’s having fun now. He said she is ready for America to be all over her.
Stay tuned as we watch the show with you LIVE!
Haley is up next, singing What Is And What Should Never Be by Led Zeppelin. Girlfriend, Robert Plant you are NOT. As a huge Zeppelin fan, I have to say that she is completely murdering the song. It’s hard to believe that the public picked her over James. I just don’t get it. Stop the madness! Ugh.. And the judges are probably going to love it.
Randy said, “This is what it’s all about” and that she is slamming. He said she chose a song that’s not for the weak of heart and that was her best performance ever. Steven said, “It’s not about how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get back up.” Jennifer said she’s gotta keep going and it was a tough song and she sang it really great.
Jimmy Iovine is picking the songs for round two! Scotty is singing first, doing Are You Going To Kiss Me Or Not by Thompson Square. Again, we’re not fans of country music at all, but Scotty totally rocked this song. Steven said he was living that one and he sang it real good, too. Jennifer said there were so many moments that she loved. She said he feels comfortable in his own skin. She asked him to shave his head for the finale. Randy said J-Lo would kiss him. He said Jimmy picked out a good song for him and he embodied Garth Brooks tonight and he felt like he was at his concert.
Lauren is up next, singing If I Die Young by The Band Perry. I’ve never heard this song before, but she’s not butchering it too bad. Jennifer said she got caught up in herself during the song and she felt that. Randy said Jennifer is right and it was a good song choice by Jimmy. Are they paid for how many times they mention his name? Steven said it was a beautiful song and she nailed it again.
Haley is singing Jimmy’s song choice, Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. This is one of my favorite song and she is completely murdering it. MURDERING IT! I just can’t with this performance. She should not have attempted Stevie Nicks, I don’t care how much wind they blow up her butt to make her seem better for the cameras. My ears DO NOT LIE. Ugh.
Randy said he thinks she did a good job. He said she was in the zone. Steven said she sang the song so good that she reminded him why he fell in love with Stevie Nicks. Jennifer said it was a nice contrast to what she did earlier. Apparently the judges and I are not watching the same show. That was truly awful.
Beyonce is world premiering her new video for Run The World (Girls)! I hate to hate on Beyonce, because she has mega-tons of talent, but I’m not feeling this song or the accompanying video. I was expecting something more connected in the song. The video was also disconnected and didn’t have any redeeming qualities, in my honest opinion. We still love you, Bey, but this song and video should’ve been left on the cutting room floor.
This round the remaining three singers will be singing the judge’s choices!
First up, Scotty is singing She Believes In Me by Kenny Rogers. As always, we’re not fans of country, but he is totally nailing this song one hundred percent. Good for him.
Steven and Jennifer wanted to see if he could hit the notes in the chorus. Randy said it was about him stretching himself at this point. He said Scotty was sweet and tender. Yes, but is he in it to win it, DAWG?
Lauren is singing I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack. I swear, this is the most country music I’ve listened to in my life, all concentrated into one night. Kill me now. Lauren isn’t that bad. I didn’t flinch during her performance.
Jennifer said she gave her “goosies from head to toe”. Randy said she slayed it and he loved the dress. He said she’s in it to win it. Steven said she walked out like she owned the Grand Ole Opry. He loved it.
Haley is singing last, doing You Oughtta Know by Alanis Morissette. She is already off-key as she starts the song. This is truly pathetic. This was the anthem of a generation and there is no vibrance or feeling in the song. She is so karaoke that it’s not even funny. Were the judges sabotaging her chances to be in the finale??? Ugh, I just can’t. This is another one of those songs that no one should attempt besides the original artist.
Randy said there were some amazing choruses and she’s “in it to win it”. Duh. Steven said she nailed it, it was beautiful and she nailed it. Jennifer said she loved it and that she nailed those hard choruses.
Clearly, the judges and I are watching different performances.
