'American Idol' Season Finale 2011 Performance Recap

UPDATE: WE’RE RECAPPING THE AMERICAN IDOL RESULTS SHOW HERE LIVE!

American Idol is down to the top two in what’s likely to be the country music showdown of the year! The top two contenders, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will battle it out for your votes! So who will emerge victorious???

Scotty is said to be the fan favorite on the show, but does have what it takes to walk away the winner of the show? Lauren is also offering some stiff competition, but does she have the chops to be your next American Idol? Stay tuned!

We’re recapping the performance show live tonight, so stick with us as we update this post with up-to-the-minute news on what’s happening with your Idol favorites!

Lauren can speak, so far, and has been given the all-clear by the doctor to perform on tonight’s show.

Round One: The Idol contestant’s favorite songs of the season

Scotty McCreery is performing the first song of the season, Gone by Montgomery Gentry. He’s putting on a great performance and the audience is going crazy.

Lauren is performing Flat On The Floor by Carrie Underwood and so far, she sounds good. Good for her! It would be awful to get this far and have to bow out of the competition.

Round Two: Celebrity picks

Scotty’s idol, George Strait, selected Check Yes Or No for Scotty to sing. He’s doing a good job, this song was a good choice for him.

Lauren’s idol, Carrie Underwood chose Maybe It Was Memphis by Pam Tillis for her to sing. She’s still holding strong with her vocal ability. Perhaps that was a stunt to get people to watch the performance show??? What do you think? She doesn’t sound like she’s struggling vocally, don’t you think?

Randy Jackson said it’s so hard because it’s so even. He said Scotty’s reprisal of Gone was brilliant and he felt like he was at a Scotty concert. He said round one went to Scotty by a slight edge, but round two went to Lauren. Jennifer Lopez said it was an explosive start from both of them. She thought Gone was amazing and Lauren attacked Flat On The Floor. She agreed with Randy on the scoring. Steven Tyler said the first and second round to Lauren, only because she’s prettier than Scotty.

Stay tuned as we watch with you!

Taio Cruz performed and on a live show, you would think they would axe the autotune, but that wasn’t the case.

If Scotty wins, he’ll be releasing a song called I Love You This Big on his debut album. That is Jimmy Iovine’s choice for his final performance tonight. He’s doing a great job on the song and has the audience waving their arms in unison.

Randy said it was the perfect song for him and Scotty is “in it to win it” and it’s “game time”. Jennifer said he’s a storyteller and that’s what it takes when you’re singing a song that nobody has heard before. Steven said that Scotty has come a long way. He said Scotty took a chance, ran with it and nailed it.

Lauren is singing a song called Like My Mother Does, which she’ll release on her album, should she win. She’s singing her heart out tonight. Good for her…But it enforces the idea that she leaked the story about her not being able to sing tonight for votes (maybe?)

Randy gave props to Jimmy for the song choice. He loves the support from her parents and said, “Lauren Alaina has arrived!” Jennifer said it’s a very tight race, but with that song, she may have just won. Steven said she was his American Idol the first time he saw her.

Randy said round three goes to Lauren, Jennifer agreed and that it’s a tight race and Steven said Lauren gets it hands down.

Who do you think is going to win the show??? Who’s getting your votes???
