On last night’s season 15 grand finale of “Dancing With The Stars”, Melissa Rycroft and her partner Tony Dovolani were crowned the champions and winners of the mirror ball trophy. After all of the celebrities from this season took to the ballroom floor for one final hurrah, the top three finalists performed their instant dances. In case you’ve missed out on last night’s show, we recapped it here.
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani were crowned the winners, with Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough in second place and Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy in third place. They all put on great performances on Tuesday night’s show. After the show, at the after party, the top three spoke of their reactions to how everything played out.
Melissa said, “It’s unreal. This whole season, I think Tony and I underestimated ourselves and thought we were underdogs. It’s totally unexpected and such a surprise.”
With regard to the final dance last night, she revealed, “I think feeling like we didn’t have anything to prove meant that you could go out and not be nervous and leave it all on the dance floor. And if you’ve made yourself happy, leave it at that. And I think that just gave us the ability to go out with confidence.”
Tony Dovolani said, “I have to tell you, it couldn’t have come at a better day. It was my wife’s and I anniversary, 13 years. It was pretty great. And it was an amazing moment for all the Albanians in America because it’s 100 years anniversary. So it’s unreal. But I’m so pleased and grateful to Melissa because she not only affected me, but the entire family.”
Melissa’s husband, Tye Strickland recorded a video for her, saying, “Baby, we couldn’t be more proud of you. You are so awesome. You never cease to amaze me. I knew you could do it all along. You’re the biggest blessing in both of our lives. And God is good and we’re so proud to get you back to Dallas. And we really need you back because Ava needs her mama.”
Shawn Johnson said of the finale, “Getting to have my girls be a part of the finale to wrap up this whole journey meant the world to me, especially with everything that they’ve gone through. Going to London and the success that they’ve had, for them to take the time to come back and support me, it was pretty cool. I just loved it.”
Derek Hough said, “It was an All Star season. It was season 15. It was just about entertaining all the people. And entertaining the fans and pushing it. As far as performances go, I’m so proud of what we accomplished. I could look back at every single performance and say we’re absolutely content and proud of what we did. I’m really proud of this girl right here. She was sensational.”
With regard to the hot topic of whether Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy are really hooking up, they stayed mum, but she did say, “I really like my friend.”
Kelly added, “Just being in the finale with these two amazingly talented women was a success in itself. Val taught me the fundamentals of dance. I felt like I could go out there at any time and shake a tail feather.”
