It is easily the best MMA card of this year so far on Saturday from Las Vegas as a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and contender Anthony Smith highlights UFC 235.
The five-fight main card is predicted to begin at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. Here’s a peek at those spells — plus the previous prelim — and their Sports Interaction UFC chances.
Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith
Records: Jones (23-1), Smith (31-13)
Division: Light heavyweight
UFC Odds: Jones -850 Prediction: Jones by decision Martial arts lost one of its greats to retirement in Georges St-Pierre, certainly the best MMA fighter. GSP is on the list of the finest of all-time regardless of division. The best? An individual can make an argument for the Jones. From the Octagon, he has no peer. He just seems to derail his career from it, whether because of drug tests that are failing or problems. Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history, and he never lost it. Jones was suspended and stripped and however, a failed drug test would come out following Jones beat on Daniel Cormier in UFC 214 of this light heavyweight belt.
Jones earned it back in December with a knockout of Alexander Gustafsson, but that came with the asterisk. Jones tested positive and also the state of Nevada wouldn’t give a licence to fight to him. So the card, at a unprecedented movement, was shifted to Los Angeles. The 30-year-old Smith is a former middleweight who has fought 205 pounds for less than a year. He is on an impressive winning streak over Mauricio Rua, Volkan Oezdemir and Rashad Evans. There is some talk Jones might face Cormier, the heavyweight champ, with a win even though Jones (unofficially) has beaten him twice already.
