Norman Reedus Talks 'The Walking Dead' Season 5 Spoilers

Norman Reedus spoke to Entertainment Weekly in a new interview about some upcoming spoilers for the back half of season five of the hit AMC show The Walking Dead. Warning: This post contains obvious spoilers for The Walking Dead, so if you aren’t up to date on the show, you may want to come back after you’ve seen last week’s episode.

Reedus revealed that fans will get to see Daryl Dixon’s humorous side in the remaining episodes of the show’s fifth season. He said that there are some pretty funny scenes that involve his character. He told the magazine, “There’s some really funny things. There’s some humor in Daryl in the back eight that just comes from him being him. He’s not really telling jokes, but it’s kind of funny. There’s a sense of humor to Daryl that, I think, we see for the first time because he’ll say little one-liners that are kind of funny, but he’s screaming them in your face.”

Showrunner Scott Gimple talked to TV Guide magazine about the show’s upcoming episodes. He said, “Some moments are fun and even a little funny. I’m not saying that Carol is turning into Zooey Deschanel from ‘New Girl,’ but there are moments of lightness that are still mixed in with some badassery.”

Reportedly, fans won’t get to see any funny moments from Daryl or Carol until the group reaches a new safe place. The group is still pretty vulnerable as they are mourning the losses of both Beth and Tyreese. During last week’s episode, we have learned that the group might be heading to Washington at Michonne’s request – because she feels that Eugene, while a liar about a cure, might have been onto something as Washington might be the best place to be.

Reedus said of the episodes, “It’s one of the darkest times that we’ve ever had as a group. Everyone is on the verge of giving up. At some point what’s in their head is, ‘What’s the point?’ Certain characters have more to live for than others, but everyone is super low at this point. We’re in a dark phase – a dark, depressed phase.”

The Walking Dead returns tonight at 9pm EST on AMC with an all new episode. Will you be tuning in? In the meantime, leave us your thoughts about last week’s episode in the comments section below.
