Psy's 'Gangnam Style' Reaches 1 Billion YouTube Views

Psy must be super excited! The Korean pop star is the first in the history of YouTube to reach one billion views for his video “Gangnam Style”. Congratulations to him for stomping all over Justin Bieber’s videos! We love the song, but we still cannot make out any of the words, hardly. Have you seen it? If not, watch it below:

YouTube addressed the milestone, saying, “Psy’s success is a great testament to the universal appeal of catchy music – and er, great equine dance moves. In the past, music distribution was mostly regional. It was more difficult to learn about great artists from around the world. But with a global platform at their fingertips, people are now discovering and sharing amazing music from all over the planet, by artists like Brazilian Michel Telo and Belgian-Australian Gotye.”

Earlier in December, the video’s success also brought to light some anti-American remarks Psy said during a protest for the U.S. military in South Korea during the Iraq war. He said, “While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self, I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.”
