Former child star Raven-Symone appears to have come out as a lesbian by posting a random tweet celebrating the changing marriage equality laws in the United States.
The former Cosby Show actress had followers and scratching their heads when she took to Twitter on Friday to share her excitement about new legislation aimed at legalizing gay marriage, following the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act – the law that denied federal benefits to gay couples who are legally married in their states.
She wrote, “I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you.”
She later elaborated on the tweet in a statement to E! News, adding, “I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”
Rumors about the actress’ sexuality began circulating last year, prompting her to address the reports.
She took to her official Twitter account to say, “I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest. I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. And I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m dating to know. I’m not one for a public display of my life.”
Symone has been linked to openly-gay America’s Next Top Model contestant AzMarie Livingston. Congratulations to her for opening up and being proud of who she is.
