Ryan Gosling Got 'The Notebook' Role Because He Wasn't Handsome?

Ryan Gosling rose to fame as Noah Calhoun in The Notebook, but it wasn’t because of his good looks. Who knew?!?

Apparently, the movie’s director, Nick Cassavetes, didn’t think he was handsome or cool. Insane!

Ryan revealed, “The director, Nick Cassavetes, called me to meet him at his house. When I got there, he was standing in his back yard, and he looked at me and said, ‘I want you to play this role because you’re not like the other young actors out there in Hollywood. You’re not handsome, you’re not cool, you’re just a regular guy who looks a bit nuts.'”

That’s pretty funny considering how many people protested the fact that Bradley Cooper won out for the title of People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive this year, for Ryan. Ha. He’s handsome, but isn’t that just crazy?!?

What do you think? He worked that role in The Notebook, didn’t he? Thoughts?
