Skylar Laine Performs ‘The Show Must Go On’ On American Idol – Video

Tonight’s theme on American Idol is Queen Week and we will see the top six competitors take on two songs. One of which, of course, is a Queen track, while the other is from a song of their choosing. Last week, we said goodbye to Colton Dixon on the show and the competition is heating up.

We are recapping the show LIVE at this link, so check out the results as they happen!

Left in the competition are Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine and Elise Testone. There are no more saves, so the contestants really has to bring it to avoid elimination.

On tonight’s show, Skylar Laine is performing her first song of the night, The Show Must Go On.

Our commentary:

Skylar doesn’t have the type of voice that is suited for a rock performance. She’s used to making every song performance countryfied, so she doesn’t have much range when it comes to songs like this. Queen wasn’t country, so we do NOT approve of this atrocity. Ugh. Someone make it stop before Freddie Mercury rolls over in his grave.

Judge’s commentary:

Steven: That was over the top. Everyone is always so dry and she has a shine on her voice. She has energy and passion. That was fabulous.
Jennifer: She got “goosies” on that one. She’s articulating every part of the story. It’s powerful.
Randy: That was incredible, dude. It was one of her best performances to date. It was effortless. She’s gotta have it.

The judges obviously were listening to something different than we were. Blah.

What did you think of Skylar’s performance tonight? Do you think he has what it takes to be the next American Idol? Was this your favorite performance of the evening? Hit the comments with your thoughts!
